Know the fiber optical the type of Patchcord
Fiber optic patch cords provide a highly reliable signal transmission method and are widely used in the telecommunications industry. This can be a challenging task when choosing the correct fiber optic patchcord for a data center or network, because there are many types on the market. Knowing the types of fiber optic patchcords will be of great help.

What is optical fiber patchcord?
Optical fiber patchcord is a kind of optical fiber cable with LC, SC and other connectors at both ends. Sometimes it is called a fiber optic patchcord. Fiber patchcords play an important role in indoor applications such as server rooms. Usually, they are used to connect fiber optic transmitters and receivers, such as fiber optic transceivers.
Know the types of fiber optic patchcords
Optical fiber patchcord are divided into different types according to optical cable mode, transmission mode and connector type.
Fiber optic cable mode: single-mode and multi-mode
The mode of the fiber optic cable indicates how the light beam propagates within the fiber optic cable. Single-mode fiber patchcord allow only one mode of light to pass along its length, and have a very thin diameter of 8-10 microns. Therefore, it can transmit signals at higher speeds with lower attenuation, and is suitable for long-distance transmission. Single-mode fiber jumpers (OS1, OS2) are yellow.
Multimode fiber patchcords are more complicated. It is usually orange (OM1, OM2), light green (OM3, OM4) or green (OM5). Multimode fiber has a larger core, usually 50 or 62.5 microns, and can transmit multiple light modes. Multimode fiber patchcords are mainly used for short distances, such as transmission in buildings or campuses. It should be noted that these two modes are incompatible, and one cannot substitute one for the other.
